Winter Hiking

GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, TENNESSEE – Most of the 800+ miles of trails in the 522,427-acre National Park are out-and-back. During the winter, hikers are treated to sweeping views of the surrounding mountains since the leaves are off the trees. Using self-guiding tour booklets available in the Park or downloading a park trail map, hikers and motorists have the chance to see one of the best collections of log and stone buildings in the eastern United States. Over 90 historic structures have been preserved or restored; many are on the National Register of Historic Places.
